Created some comparison images of the original portrait images of dolls from 1502-1620 placing a side by side image with the resulting replica. Many of these you may have seen a few years ago if you follow this space. Finding a way of practicing my skill to improve my sculpting, making more dolls was the answer. Not all were going to end up as a final project for Arts and Sciences. Although still wanted a certain level of accuracy in my work to show through regardless. The bodies on many of these are an artist's wooden lay mannequin and added air dry clay to create features on the faces and painted with gouache paint and sealed with glue.
These dolls were years before the 2020-2021 Dastardly Doll Project and the new skills of woodcarving. Since woodcarving is a recent development, I did include images of Dorothy for scope as well. I do plan some tweaking on the Cranach dolls to make them closer to the portrait images. Some of these are more in the clothing details on both and headdress for the one. The goldhaube, a 16th century German headdress is not as easy as it may seem. I will have to research more to find away of making a more accurate miniature version.
Here is a Gallery of those comparison images, Enjoy
