Well, it’s February and almost forgot to post some progress here. Had made some reels for Instagram and included the newer doll.
I was able to make progress on one of the two dolls that have been in progress. So the doll with an olive complexion I did a second German gown, a few decades later than the previous doll. Her clothing is closer to 1560-1570. Took a while to get the wulsthaub, linen under-layer cap, and goldhaube fancier over-layer headgear arranged. Once I had it the way I wanted, sewed the layers together and it fits just right.
The underlayers are a linen shift with collars and an orange damask underskirt that was pleated. The next layer is the support layer which was more fitted but had a pleated effect for the top skirt. Am pleased I did have more of this fabric for a gown of my own it’s so pretty it needs to be created as a lightweight German alternative. The outer gown came together quite nicely. It sewed up very well, using bias tape on a sewing machine is tricky. I had to repair some spots that came loose. Although it was easy enough to correct and continue on with sewing the layers. It’s a very nice print on cotton and I lined it with cotton so it drapes decently. Not as heavy as some fabrics but it looks good with the print.I added a gold chain necklace and belt from my own collection of costume jewelry. It was worth seeing if the larger links were going to work. I like how it looks at this scale. So this doll is complete, I am working on the under layers of the next doll.
More fun on the way,
Maureen
