The head taking up room on the shoulders |
So this weekend, I commenced more woodcarving. This was on the head of said doll, trying to form the neck and begin shaping the face from a block to a more rounded shape. Additionally shaping the head so it doesn’t look out of proportion with the rest of the body. The head still appears bigger proportion at this time and the neck needs contouring to the body. I was able to complete the neck other than previously mentioned contouring. There will be more on this as the head will take a few hourly sessions of carving to shape.
There will be a wig glued on the wooden head after the shaping is complete. The wig will require me to make a fitted bias cut wig cap out of linen. Sewing the hair down in a consistent pattern to the linen. The proceed to glue the wig to wooden head then style the hair. This is the next step once the head is sanded and the desired shape and proportion.
On the body of the doll I began some minor finishing which was gluing the elbow, knee and hip.

Head will need to be smaller than current size |
joints in place, this was needed so the wooden dowel pins would not come out during movement. I also glued the feet and hands in a stationary position since they kept falling out of the wrist arm and ankle leg joint. I needed some support for the joints but on specific joints still needed an amount of movement.
So progress is happening,
