I have located some pictures as texture reference for the 1560’s English gown. Also gives me ideas for decorating the luscious velvet. As this gown is being made for Abigail, the redhead porcelain doll as seen in previous photos. I will post one here in case someone forgot.
The gown will be red velvet but not as heavily adorned as some of the pictures. Slashes or known as “pulling a though” is really challenging on velvet since it grays profusely. So I am thinking more trim and creat glade slashes in some way through a trim and put it on the sleeves. We shall see what I can engineer in miniature for decoration. Could definitely bead the gown and make jewelry for the doll. Stocked up on super small pearls and seed beads. So akin to the DMC floss. I bought beads but finally put them in proper cases for ease of storage and accessibility. So one case for semi precious beads. Another for glass seed beads of two sizes. A separate plastic case for gold metal findings, and another for other metallic beads in a few different finishes, this was an already boxed bead set from Walmart. When searching at Michaels, they had similar boxes set labeled of beads. Although a better selection of string beads than Walmart. Joann fabrics has about the same amount of beading supplies as Walmart.
Unless one wants to shop online defiantly limits selection of brands at the big box stores. Although there was enough to get a basic supply together. I will have to see if there are any beading supplies that I need from online. Avoiding that since shipping is challenging in good times, with current events in mind will become more pricey to get deliveries at home.
Thankful for a good stock of supplies already, only have to get odds and ends for these projects. Really like this image near this paragraphs I think it’s beautiful and he head covering for the bun is doable from scrap velvet with gold cord or lace for structure. Bun covers on the back of the head seems to be used with tall hats for ladies in this fashion time frame.
Since slashing is so popular will have to see if trim and beading can creat some false slashes. Pondering a few techniques to achieve the proper look for the sleeves.
