Silver Anniversary

Here is the pink pearled coif and partlet with another gown. This is my silk and linen  gown. All trimmed in pink gauze with gold filament with fancy button closures. The Spanish sleeves off set the coral inner sleeve with the pink trim. Very happy how it all looks.

The catapult youth activities went well, chaotic as expected. Have a few folks wanting help enhance the youth experience at events. Very pleased with the help running out of ideas and time with work being so intensive. It's nice to get some input and helping hands. The eating the ammo was very popular though I plan on better rubber bands to hold up better for the catapults. I received the Trebuchets in the mail, may have to be an outside activity since they get better distance.

Got to see many friends receive great awards, vivats for all the recipients. On the list working on Ice Dragon Pent is looming. I am working on a specific youth toy entry, fighting knights in strings as inspired by the Horus Delicarum manuscript. So I have waxed sisal rope, made a table cover, and have drawn the knights on the wooden blocks. I have the embroidered jacket to add but it's a work in progress. So have to write documentation and come up with a detailed drawing of the jacket when completed. Also have to starch the ruff and set them on their stands.

So lots to do and little time as usual but that is not  surprising. I am praying I have things done  in a reasonable manner. I hope to work on lots tonight. We shall see how far I get.

Looking to see my laurel at this event and get some major insight into  knowledgable  nuances I may have overlooked.  This being my favorite if events it's going to be fun for certain. Don't have new gown to debut but that is fine I have my gold and white gown to wear out of the fabric my laurel  gave me want to show her the use of it.

Was able to get 5th peacock done early this week working on the last one but have a gardens worth of flowers to embroider on the body of the jacket.  Guess will see how it all goes.  Got to get back yo working on all this, lots of concentration on the little things.

French Renaissance Portraits

Wanted to show some French Renaissance Portraits that inspire me, they may not being exactly the time and coutry my SCA persona is located. Though I love well tailored gowns, hats and hairstyles of the 1550 French. I wanted to share these jewels of clothing, jewelry, and hairstyle mastery with my readers.

Hatamania Revisited

Well as well as working on wonderful lace projects lately, I have been revisiting one of my old projects, French Attifet style hats. Though I have heard a more appropriate description is heart-shaped coif. Which I like this better for discussing this wonderful style of hat for late period gowns.

 I have made some bun covers to go with hats for later period gowns. Though these are more like an heart shaped french Juliet cap with hair net attached.These really have alot of lace detailed features that I have been enjoying.  So far I have one that is made from floral embroidered fabric have to trim it yet, one in blue with french lace covering, one in green with battenburg lace covering, one made entirely from battenburg lace.

 I want to make on in peach with the same lace covering as the blue and one that is a floral brocade. Very excited to see how they wear with the gowns.For now here are pictures of the three I completed so far.

Bonnet Bonanza

Well I decided I wanted some Elizabethan Style bonnets also called a snood, and cauls. Since I have the gowns to wear, its time to have proper headgear. So I am making a few heart shaped style hats, and will see about some coifs too. Here is what I have done so far. I also bought some rat like hair accessories, to get the smooth Elizabethan hairstyle. Though I am not sure if I like them as much as teasing up my curls and spraying them to shape. Guess we will see, both methods are perfectly acceptable means to the look.

Poufs, Pearls, and Trim

Well I have been working on one last gown to clean out the large amount of farbic in the stash. Right now I have large scrap pieces that will do well to make some accessories. We will see what I come up with. This gown has turned out like the picture, though there is still more work to be done. Though it is still in need of silk poufs added to the sleeves, pearls to adorn it all over and some trim to finish of the slashes on the sleeves.

This is the example drawing of the gown I made with marker and pen. I suprised someone who has seen my costumes, with the detailed drawings that I make before I even cut the fabric. Though if I do not make a drawing, my mind has a hard time calculating my pattern and steps to make the garment.

Here is my progress so far. As you can see I have alot of details to complete yet. More finishing than anything else. This gown I had to put a false front to the skirt, didn't have enough fabric to make a full skirt. The feature on this gown that really sets if off, is the trim bands on the sleeves. I am going to add more trim to isolate the puffs into three sections just like on the drawing for the sleeves. Then will add pearl details all over. There is delicate pink trim on the bands that is hard to see from this distance but its really pretty, just had enough to do the whole gown.

So that has been my project for the week so far. I hope to get a better photo when I make more progress and eventually with all these new gowns I can take pictures wearing them very soon. I am also considering several hats to make to match that would be appropriate for the period, would require me to get versed in the Heart Shape Elizabethan Hairstyle, will have to find some rats to pouf up  my hair.

P.S. I have no clue which gown I want to wear to FFF this coming Saturday. So many gowns and not enough local events to wear them ;-)
