Compare Contrast

 Wanted to give a side by side comparison, I think that even with my few changes it turned out really nice and a good tribute to the outfit in the painting. I like making gowns from paintings but this was a real challenge finding a suitable fabric, which was a find when I found it locally. This dress is very comfortable and I like the colors even more now that I have worn it. When I get my new corset I know that the profile will work better even than seen here in the photos.

 

  Actually both gowns are very nice and turned out gorgeous. I also made a gown out of the cream with gold brocade fabric that was a gift from Duchess Ilish O'Donovan.  The hood, foresleeves and foreskirt being the same fabric, I used the gold lozenge fabric, which I bought for $1, to make a matching trim on the gown. Which the result turned out beautifully. I like these shades than than I thought I would. They work well with my hair and skintone. Guess when you know you know, trust in instinct.

 I finally posted a collection on the previous post of new gown photos, as featured in this post. Couldn't get my phone to take good pictures without the photos eating up all my memory on that device. So still tried and true old Sony digital camera came through. Will have to see what I can do about this, the camera will stop working eventually and I will have to find a reasonable replacement.

Anyway I hope to post more photos soon, will depend on my work schedule and free time. Need to get picture of the brocade rose accent gowns. Which one is leaf green with white trim and the other is gold with red trim.  I have hats for these too, they are more of a general Renaissance style gowns, than from a particular European country. Specifically, I will see if I can 'style' them with accessories to make them more versatile from wearing to wearing. For now got to get back to chores and laundry.

Striving for new Heights

I am selling off one of my early Ice Blue Damask Tudor gown, not for the lack of liking it. My tudorbethan wardrobe again is bursting at the seams. Though I must say I am flattered by all the interest in my historical garments when I do sell them on Ebay or Etsy. I hope they sell soon, hoping to find more wonderful inexpensive fabrics to inspire future gowns soon.  Here is the link for you to see what I have for sale, 2 days left on the auctions. My Ebay Listings

I decided to keep the green cotton kirtle and convert it to some undergarments. Rather get use out of it than have it sit round the sewing room collecting dust. Answer conversion, not exactly what you may think of for sewing but its a very historically accurate to change garments to suit new fashions and functions.  I want to line the bodice with reed boning and take the open front on the skirt and put an inset for an underskirt. Always planning always thinking about gowns.

I also found the most luxurious white with red pattered damask, it is a large curtain about 3 yards. I plan on making it into a Venetian Renaissance Gown. Most likely in the 1560's or 1570's, with its long deep V bodice with a lacing front I know it will be flattering. I also found the most wonderful matching blood red fabric for the sleeves, which I plan on decorating with fervor with beads and puffs of silk.  I hope it comes together like I am imaging in my mind. Here is my inspiration painting for this gown. I love the scalloped lace and will have to find some fun way of adding this to my red and white confection.

I also am working on the Elizabethan gowns too, this is just another sewing distraction what can I say. Though a gown from another country is always a fun change of pace for me. Not the first time making an Italian gown and also have made a Saxon gown too.

Homeward Bound Gryphon

I wanted to share the newest member of the Plotts Gryphon Conclave! That is what I call my gryphon woodbaby collection at home, lol. This new one yet to be named, will be joining us after the New Year. Also in puppet news I decided to sell off all of my Imaginarium Galleries Drabbits! Even though I like Drabbits with their very interesting style difference, available my local renaissance faire, and Imaginarium Galleries has Drabbit giveaways. I discovered much more happiness and contentment with my Midsummer Knight Dream Woodbaby collection and the company that makes these wonders of art.

My reasons for the total switch to Midsummer Knights Dream Woodbabies are; better and wider variety of creatures, much better prices for the puppet you receive, much better communication to customers, and options to order a custom puppet without waiting weeks for a reply. Even though I cannot get them at my local renaissance faire and I adopt them online, my feelings have leaned this way for sometime.  The staff at MSKD is so more engaging, friendly, and attentive to answering questions and flexible to my needs. I guess customer service means alot to me and MSKD has it.  

Hoping the sale will help with Holiday bills and will make room for me to move my Woodbabies from the cold front sewing/computer room, to the areas in the living room on top stereo a place of real honor. I have lots of interest with folks wanting to adopt the Drabbits I have at home and space should clear soon.

Elizabethan Gown Available for Christmas

I have this gown available for sometime and its in need of a home. A home where someone can wear it without squeezing into it, just doesn't fit me right. Elizabethan Gowns for Sale, Need To Sell!

Tudorosities Milestones!

Well since 2010, this little corner of the web brings some light to Tudor Costuming, Elizabethan Costuming, Accessories from both periods as well as other delights from the Tudor dynasy that I found through my SCA journey. Over 10,000 views and over 130 posts since its inception in April of 2010. I wanted to take a opportunity to thank you for your support!

I thought a good way to celebrate was to answer a question never asked about this blog, What is a Tudorosity? I wanted to come up with a unique title for this blog. Figuring that either I would have to make up a word or mash two words together, which both happend and created the idea behind the title.

Tudor-  1.any associations with the time period 1405-1603. 2.the reigns of the English royal family of Tudor starting with Henry VII through Elizabeth I.

Curiosities- 1. the desire to learn or know about anything; inquisitiveness 2. Having and interesting quality or character

So I mashed the Tudor and had to make it roll together with Curisosities, so Tudorosities was born.
Singurlar of course for one quandry and plural for many quandries. I went for plural in the name since the blog covers a wide range of time and topics.  I plan on putting this in my Frequently Asked Questions, even thought its never been asked techinically. So here is the offical definition of this blog's title.

Tudorosity- an desire to learn or know anything about the Tudor dynasty assocated with years 1405 through 1603.

Well that is our dose of vocabulary for the day. I finished the embroidery on the second sleeve panel  yesterday. I also started working on the third, there are four panels that make the sleeves on this jacket. Yay, progress on the embroidery. Can't wait to finish these so I can work on the body panels

Mending and Custom Orders

For the past weekend I have not got lots of embroidery done, though I have been making money. I had completed a Karate outfit for my sisters doll, which is a class room teaching aid. So super happy to help out.  I mended a skirt, made patches for jeans, mended a hole in some kahki shorts, and got this custom order. So lots of activity from 5 different customers. All in all I made profit and kept busy. Wish I could be this steady through the rest of the year. It was a nice financial boost.

Well I am currently working on a Custom French hood, black with silver accents and lace. Looking reallg good so far should have it done within the next few days. Though I wanted to let everyone know that I still have openings for custom Halloween and Renaissance Faire costumes!  Please think ahead, these take time to complile and I need time to sew also.

Sneak Peek

Thought I would give you all a nice peek of one of the gowns I finished decorating. A before decoration pic from the sale and two pics of after. This gown has a linen top and a silk skirt, the seller was great in matching the texture and colors up that you don't know a difference unless you touch the fabric.  I think there is definitely an improvement with the decoration. I love the gold trim decoration with white velvet ribbon in the middle, brightens it up. The fur in the sleeves is just genius and the beads really finished it off with a distinguished touch. Have one more small good piece of ermine fur, and I will have to figure out how I will use it well. I am working on the navy blue gown now I have lots of puff plans for this one, oh its so pretty and going to be so much more lovely when done.

Had to do something with my hair, so I just wore my black velvet french hood to keep it looking some what Renaissance-like, though this hat is too early compared to the gown.  I will have to look into more elizabethan hats ;-) I have ideas but will have to find ways of putting them in use. Oh hoop skirts rock, so much easier to move in compared to petticoats all over the place under my gown, yeah new fan of the hoops or should I say farthingale;-)

Found an old movie called Le Princess de Cleves made in 1961, its all in french and can't find a translation to English. Its all about the French court in the 16th century. Has a wonderfully dressed class of actors and the enormous scale of old films with elaborately dressed cast of extras, which I wish was in color and not black and white. Though the texture of all the lovely garb can be seen through the silver screen presentation. What a wonderful depiction of a young vibrant Mary Queen of Scots newly married to the French Dauphin. The actress really looked just like the Clouet drawings and paintings of the time, wow just wow!  Will have to look into this and some more costume drama films, I have a wide range already but always happy to see more on MQS.

I hope to post more as they come and this is just the start to getting the pictures for the Elizabethan Gown slide show, really excited. Also the wedding is only 8 days away so its going to be a hectic week, though really excited. Will post pics of the day too so stay tuned.

Oh one Blue Velvet Tudor gown sold, hope the other Green Tudor and Silver Tudor Gowns do too could really use the funds to pad things. Just will make life easier. I have a load of books that need to be gone, need to make room for all my lovely books on costuming on my shelf ;-) I have some old garb that no longer fits that has to be listed also, so have a few things to do before bed. Going to get back to some stitchery.

So Many Elizabethan So Little Time

Found more Elizabethan gowns on ebay and purchased the two above. These will be decorated with trim, ribbon, beads, and such.  I am almost done decorating the first gown from my previous purchase, I have to get some more bead caps.  Having lots of fun decorating these and looking forward to seeing how these turn out. I am really please these are silk also, I tested the previous gowns and they are real silk.

No progress made on my embroidery since I have been working on the gowns instead. Though I should be get to the last bit of crewel embroidery for my gloves. Certainly will need them with accessorizing the new gowns.

I am considering cleaning out three Tudor gowns out of my garb, two I am reamaking with better quality velvet and the one doesn't fit proper and I don't wear the color. Now neeing space for lovely silk Elizabethan gowns, this will help emensely. Putting them on Ebay on Monday with some books, jewelry, that I no longer need.

Ended up cleaning out some of my fabric stash and found some smelling like cat pee, so I had to throw it out.  Though that does happen and I know its not my cats who are doing it. Its older fabric from when I had another cat that did mark and got on the fabric. Guess that proves time won't get rid of the smell.

Work related note, got officer of the month for Decemebr 2011, found out in the regional quarterly report. Will be using my day off to its fullest with sewing.

Well back to planning decorating for the new gowns, and working on the ones I have at home.

Tudor Gowns For Sale to Support My Wedding

I have two tudor gowns I am selling to make some cash to help pay for our wedding cake and fiance's tuxes. I am selling my blue velvet Tudor and green velvet Tudor gowns. For $200 each

They have been worn both once and are in excellent shape. They are tailored to fit a 34 bust 29 waist and free in the hips, the polyester velvet fabric does have some stretch, so they will fit larger sizes by 3 inches. There is boning on the inside to give support though suggested a corset to wear underneath for proper support. The sale is just for the outter gown only not the accessories or underpinnings.

The gowns are done in the Tudor Tailor pattern, so there is a lacing section with a stomacher that pins off to one side, so really accurate in the pattern.

Hatimania with Fancy Hat Pins

Hi all,

Well I am still working away at the french hood, its looks adorable. I need to find some thicker gauge wire to reinforce its curved shape at this point. The stuff I have is not cutting it right now but does give some stability. I have to finish sewing the trim and putting some beads on it and I will post some pics when I am done. I can't wait to make some matching foresleeves trimmed in black satin, its just looks so sharp.

Though on Saturday I did get some sparkly awesomeness completed. I made 12- 6" hat pins for my renaissance riding hats. I hope to add a peach riding hat eventually but its taking some time to get through the french hood right now. I realized my stock of stiffened felt is running low, So I will have to stock up on that and thick wire for more millinery insanity ;-)

I made a fold over piece of brocade fabric two Saturday's ago and had no idea what I made. Just sewing during a roleplaying session to keep awake, I was especially tired that day. When I was driving home after getting some take out earlier this week, it hit me like a bolt of lightning, I just made a fold over hat pin folio. Lol I must be getting really good at sewing and such. After all foreshadowing my own needs to making things even before I know that I will need them is a really awesome talent.

I am putting out local one page ads at all my local laundry mats, libraries, and grocery stores for my costumes and seeing who bites. More wedding money is always good plus folks get some awesome costumes out of the deal, great way to spread the Halloween love. Well that is about it from here, hope to post more hatimania soon.

Here are the Dresses for Sale with Pictures

Silver bodice is 35 inch waist and 38 inch bust so yeah larger than I thought. This has a matching silver skirt with a 42 inch length on the skirt from the waist band. SOLD

Green cotton bodice is a 33 inch waist closed and 35 inch bust front the waist on the skirt is 43 inches long from the waistband, so a longer skirt also.


Blue and green bodice is 35 inc bust and 29 waist, so that would be tighter fitting depending on how much space you want to allow in the front.



This is a wool peasant dress and is lined with linen and has a side back hook and eye closure, measurements are 34 bust and 30 waist. Inch or two left in the shirt to leave room for weight fluctuations. This is in Olive Green and Jet black(pictured) . BOTH SOLD
